    Sixth Form Community Day 2016

    Sixth Form Community Day 2016

On Tuesday 5th July, Alcester Grammar School held its seventh annual Sixth Form Community Day. Just under 250 students from Year 12 (Lower Sixth) took time out from lessons to offer their services to local community projects.

Students were involved in nearly 30 different activities in and around Alcester, Henley, Stratford and Redditch, including gardening at Coughton Court, Cleeve Prior Tithe Barn, and with Studley in Bloom, helping out at charity shops, entertaining residents in local care homes, and giving a helping hand to local primary schools and nurseries. Other students worked with other charity and ecological projects in the area.

The aim of the day is to be of service to the community and to help the students appreciate their place and responsibilities in it, as well as develop their skills and knowledge.  Assistant Head of Sixth Form, Dr. Patrick Carr, explained: “Over the seven years that we’ve run our Community Day we have built up long-lasting relationships with many local community projects, and develop new ones each year.  The students learn a lot and hopefully contribute significantly to the different causes, but have a lot of fun doing so.”

Dr Carr welcomes inquiries from any organisation interested in collaborating on next year’s Community Day.
