EPQ (Extended Project Qualification)

For those who are suitable we also offer the Extended Project Qualification in the third term of Year 12. There is a cost (to cover the added tuition and exam fees).

The EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) is a stand-alone qualification, studied above and beyond A Levels. It carries the same UCAS weighting as an ‘old’ AS level with UCAS points attached to it, and it allows you to research and develop an essay or artefact around a topic of your choice.

You can take inspiration from something studied in class or something completely unrelated to your studies.

Here are some previous examples of successful EPQ projects; EPQ 2023.mp4

Why complete an EPQ?

Undertaking an Extended Project can support your application to Higher Education by:

  • Reducing the level of an offer

  • Giving your application preference on highly selective courses over students who have not undertaken EPQ

  • Providing a focus for valued content within your personal statement

  • Providing a major focus for interview discussion

  • The EPQ is awarded UCAS points  worth half an A-level and is recognised by universities and employers; some leading universities, such as Southampton University, make alternative offers to students undertaking an EPQ
