Spanish

At AGS all students will study Spanish and French  in year 7 from September 2024. They will be able to choose whether they would like to choose French, Spanish or both going forward at the end of year 8.

The Spanish course in Key Stage Three builds the foundations in vocabulary, phonics and grammar in preparation for GCSE study. There is a focus on language learning skills and strategies needed to become independent language learners.

There are opportunities to learn about other languages through European Day of Languages celebrations, competitions that run throughout the year and events run by LangSoc.

We run cultural trips to Spain with year 8 students and have been to Bilbao in the north of Spain and Málaga in the south of Spain in recent years. We always include a variety of activities which enable students to use their language skills as much as possible and to build positive relationships with other students along the way.

The Spanish course we use reflects the world pupils live in, using contexts familiar to them in their everyday needs and teaches them the vocabulary they need to communicate with young people on topics that interest them.

In KS3 we follow OUP textbooks Claro 1 and Claro 2
